The Australian newspaper has published a list of 100 Emerging Leaders in Australia.
CPD’s Executive Director Miriam Lyons joins the list in the ‘Thinking’ category, alongside Policy Strategist Ben Rimmer, Community Activist Simon Sheikh, International Law Scholar James Cockayne and others.

Miriam Lyons admits she was probably not the most productive of employees when she entered the workforce. “My first paid gig was preparing window displays for a bookshop in Bowral,” says the executive director of the Centre for Policy Development. “I wasn’t very good at it – kept getting distracted by reading the books.” But after completing a BA in politics and international relations at UNSW and “most of” an MA in journalism from UTS, Lyons, who was born in Tweed Heads but now lives in Sydney, has found her niche – and plenty of required reading. “Because the CPD focuses on combating the short-termism of the political cycle, it’s part of my job description to spend time thinking about how to improve the fairness and sustainability of Australian public policy over the long term,” she explains.
