Access Community Employment Services

Access Community Employment Services provides a vacancy filling service to employers and industry and a free job placement program for all jobseekers over the age of 15. The program’s unique ‘place-based’ employer focused model has seen positive results for both job seekers and employers, highlighting the success of this way of operating. Programs run under Access Community Employment Services include: Skilling Queenslanders for Work; The Yarrabilba Exchange; Regional Relocation Services.

Employment Pathways

The Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) supports hundreds of people each year at their Footscray and Dandenong centres to identify transferable skills and experience, map their employment pathways and teach them effective ways to find work. ASRC also runs a job readiness program which partners refugees and people seeking asylum with personal employment advisors to help them prepare for work, apply for suitable jobs and address employment barriers.

Equity Training Program

The Northern Territory Government provides an Equity Training Program as part of their Adult Education and Training programs. Incorporated organisations, registered training organisations and schools can apply for an Equity Training Grant for programs to improve training and employment outcomes for disadvantaged people, including refugees, in the Territory.

Friendly Nation Initiative

The Friendly Nation Initiative is a business-led strategy that seeks to increase employment, mentoring, training, and internship opportunities for refugees and humanitarian migrants. With a particular focus on the special intake of 12,000 Syrian and Iraqi refugees, it recognises that creating pathways to employment is a crucial step in the process of resettling newly arrived refugees. Friendly Nation Initiative works with employers and a network of refugee employment services to find the right people for the right positions and ensure ongoing support for both employees and the employer.

Given the Chance

Location: Victoria and National
Given the Chance is a set of programs designed to assist marginalised job seekers into work, support employers to grow and diversify their workforce, and foster social benefit and inclusion in workplace communities. Given the Chance matches employers with potential employees in a professional, personalised and fully supported way. After the success of the initiative in Victoria, Given the Chance is now being extended to select sites nationally to meet the demands of even more employers and job seekers.

Jobactive

Jobactive is the Australian government’s employment services system, with providers active in over 1700 locations across Australia. Jobactive providers assist job seekers to get and keep a job, and offer employers an end-to-end tailored recruitment service to find and hire staff. Jobactive services are generally available to anyone receiving an income support payment or who has mutual obligation requirements.

Jobs Victoria Employment Network

The Jobs Victoria Employment Network (JVEN) is the Victorian Government’s major activity to help Victorians facing barriers to employment into jobs. Services are delivered by employment specialists who work closely with employers to identify job opportunities and prepare jobseekers for those roles.

Multicultural Employment Hub

Location: South Australia
The Multicultural Employment Hub assists on-arrival humanitarian clients to understand the requirements of the industrial system and to prepare for finding employment or work experience. Working alongside an employment and training adviser, new arrivals are able to plan individualised long- and short-term employment goals, including having their overseas qualifications recognised and registered. The hub also organises workplace visits and links to work experience for clients who have completed their AMEP hours.

New Australian Internship Program

The New Australian Internship Program supports refugees who are currently studying at University or aiming to restart their career. The program supports two groups; the Mid-career Professionals (those refugees with tertiary qualifications and professional work experience who strive to re-establish careers in Australia) and University Students (full-time university students who undertake paid internships during university to link their studies with practical work experience).

ParentsNext

ParentsNext operates nationally, across all non-remote employment regions to help parents of young children (under 6 years old) to plan and prepare for employment. ParentsNext aims to build confidence among parents of young children to apply for and sustain long-term employment, or to complete education and employment courses. It also aims to improve financial awareness and budgeting, and confidence in accessing services.

Refugee Employment Support Program (RESP)

Refugees Seeking Employment Program (RESP) helps participants develop career plans and link them with employers and education. It fosters English language skills, allows for participants to access mentoring and gain skilled employment as well as undertake education and training courses. It helps with the recognition of overseas qualifications, supports business skills development, links participants with work experience and overcomes transport barriers.

Refugee Talent

Refugee Talent is an employment platform where companies can hire diverse talent across Australia and internationally. The platform helps refugees to find employment in Australia that matches their experience from their home country. The platform seeks to replace the informal networks that refugees are often missing in a new country and that are important for any job-seeking process.

Women’s Employment into Action (WEIA)

Location: South Australia
Women’s Employment into Action (WEIA) provides free accredited and non-accredited training, work experience and mentoring to migrant and refugee women. WEIA is a flexible program offering: training, mentoring and work experience during school hours, practical training for women from diverse backgrounds to prepare for work in Australia, support and links to employers, free child care for preschool children during the program and Certificate III in Individual Support and/or employment skills for working in aged, disability care and other areas of work.

Youth Empowerment and Leadership Program

Location: South Australia
The AMRC engages young participants aged 15-25 years in an array of activities that support their settlement, skills and leadership development in their own communities and the South Australian community. The program also equips them to mentor other newly arrived young people. As part of the program, young people can participate in water safety education, road safety and transport training, bus excursions and SA Youth Parliament.
