Silvia Irawan

Expertise: Climate finance, sustainable commodity production, sustainable regional development

Dr. Silvia Irawan is Program Lead for the Just Transition Focus Area at the Centre for Policy Development. She is an environmental policy researcher with over twenty years of experience working in the topics of climate finance, sustainable commodity production, farmer empowerment and sustainable regional development. She holds a PhD degree in Environment from the Crawford School of Public Policy at the Australian National University.

In the early part of her career, Silvia worked with prominent multilateral organisations such as the World Bank, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). Later, she founded Kaleka, an Indonesian non-profit research organisation dedicated to collaborating with farmers, indigenous communities, and local governments to develop sustainable models for rural green economies.

Silvia frequently publishes articles in peer-reviewed journals and opinion pieces in national and international media. Her latest book, The Human Elements of Environmental Change: Life Stories of Four Environmental Changemakers in Indonesia, explores the personal journeys of key environmental leaders in Indonesia.
