Emma works in the university sector to make tech education inclusive and accessible for everyone. She has worked as a social researcher in women’s health, economic inequity, housing, trauma and violence, and criminogenic pathways. She was Director of Information Management at Navy during the Afghanistan and Iraq wars, and has worked in open source software development in public and private sector.
Emma is a former ACT Minister for Mental Health; Population Health (including COVID); Corrections and Justice Health; Disability; Community Services, Seniors and Veterans; and ACT Greens spokesperson for prevention of domestic and family violence, and digital technology. As youth justice Minister, she ensured alternative systems were established and raised the minimum age of criminal responsibility to 14 years. As mental health Minister, she increased the range of free community mental health services. As population health Minister, she extended funding for pill testing. As disability Minister, she fought alongside the community to protect the NDIS.
